Kuala Lumpur – December 2013

It is my 3^rd time in Kuala Lumpur and just the memory that once I thought it was a place I would never have the chance to return makes me smile and wonder how life is unpredictable. I am happy to land in a city that feels familiar but still so exotic to my eyes.

Malaysian population came from 4 main ethnic groups (Malay, Indian, Chinese and indigenous Orang Asli). From the mixing of these groups can be seen in the colourful culture and delicious Malay cuisines.

Most of Malays are Muslim but freedom of religion is guaranteed and you see it very clear specially in Kuala Lumpur where woman on colourful veils walk besides Indians ladies on their beautiful saris and teenagers girls on an very western fashion clothes. Beyond doubt Kuala Lumpur is one of the most if not the most cosmopolitan capital in Southeast Asia.

I got through the immigration and it hits me that my trip begins NOW. I had bought only my ticket to Malaysia and didn’t book any accommodation or planned how long I will stay. The only plan I have and I will stick with it is to go with the flow. Great feeling! Everything is possible from now on.

I “float” all the way to the city centre savouring the scenery and tropical weather sensation. I head to Chinatown, where the backpacker guest houses are. It is busy, lots of food stalls, Chinese temple in one side of a street and Hindu temple just the opposite. After sometime I found a guest house I am happy with, clean, safe and friendly people around.

I spent 3 nights in the Kuala Lumpur indulging myself in every snack I could find in the street stalls, noodles soup, walks around the city and massage.

A maioria dos Malaios são muçulmanos , mas a liberdade de religião é garantida e você vê isso muito claro especialmente em Kuala Lumpur onde a mulher em véus coloridos andam lado-a-lado com mulheres Indianas em seus belos saris e adolescentes em uma roupas ocidentais. Sem duvidas Kuala Lumpur é uma das mais, se não a capital mais cosmopolita no Sudeste Asiático.
Passei pela imigracao e so entao fica claro que minha viagem começa AGORA. Eu tinha comprado apenas o meu bilhete para a Malásia e não reservei qualquer acomodacao ou planejei quanto tempo ficar. O único plano que tenho, e que irei cumprir, ir com o fluxo. Sencacao de liberdade! Tudo e possível a partir de agora.
Eu “flutuo” todo o caminho até o centro da cidade, saboreando a paisagem e clima tropical. Meu destino e Chinatown, onde ficam as acomodacoes para mochileiros. É uma area com muitas pessoas, barracas de comida, templo chinês em um lado da rua, um templo Hindu exatamente do lado oposto. Depois de algum tempo eu encontrei um hostel limpo, seguro e com pessoas amigáveis ao redor.

Passei 3 noites em Kuala Lumpur me esbaldando nas comidas de rua, noodles, caminhadas ao redor da cidade e massagem no fim do dia.
